VOICES WITHIN SILENT WALLS || POETRY FOR #SAVELAUTECH MOVEMENT

Closed Engineering workshop @ LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

‘Lade feels cheated

because school refuses to be the colorful tales of happy stories

that she had always heard of.

She wakes up every morning

and it feels as though her heart keeps dropping an inch lower down to her feet

because her feet can’t move

they refuse to move .

‘Lade feels stuck

because LAUTECH is not what was promised.

She listens to news from Titilope across Ogbomoso;

Her voice filled with joy and contentment

because Titilope leaves for CDS

every Thursday

while ‘Lade remains stuck on a spot for what seems like a hundred years.

Her body and mind are willing to love forward with school

but the air within the walls of the school is stale.

All she hears are empty promises from the humans

who hold the power on the tip of their tongues

But here is the thing about empty promises

they only pave way for anger and distrust.

Empty 1200 lecture theatre @ LAUTECH, Ogbomoso

Lade feels hopeful
because there are those standing up

Against this slowness

against this stale air hanging around  the walls and the trees.

She believes we have in us

the power to make and remake our

future for the better.

‘Lade believes in this,
What do you believe in?

  1. It’s sad how a school has suddenly become a still zone that no longer offer learning to the willing student. I have been hearing this shut down all over the news but I have not really been following…

  2. This captures exactly what my daughter describes feeling to me on a daily. It’s disheartening when you have a child eager and wanting to learn. It’s hard seeing the youth began to “act out” because of it as well, now labeled with ADHD or other learning disabilities when half the time, that’s not the case at all. Honest piece, thank you for sharing.
